Despite overcast skies and light April rain in Midtown Manhattan, the 2026 Easter Parade and Easter Bonnet Festival brought a burst of color and creativity to the streets outside St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Along Fifth Avenue, from 49th to 57th Street, participants of all ages—and even their pets—paraded in imaginative headwear that ranged from classic Easter motifs like flowers, eggs, and bunny ears to highly original, custom designs.
The event showcased both whimsy and deeper messages, with some attendees using their bonnets as artistic statements. One participant wore a headpiece crafted from plastic waste to highlight environmental concerns, while another incorporated decommissioned MetroCards into a striking fashion ensemble. Captured through the lens of photographer Amir Hamja, the festival once again proved to be a joyful celebration of individuality, community, and the enduring charm of Easter traditions in New York City.
