Dua Lipa Makeup Artist’s Fuller Lips Trick: Micro-Lining Explained

Katie Jane Hughes, makeup artist to the likes of Dua Lipa, Hailey Bieber, and Lily Allen, reveals a groundbreaking trick that will allow you to add volume to your lips while maintaining that blurry look. It is a minimalist hack that provides the look of over-lined lips without looking overly fake, and all you need to do is make some marks with a lip liner and fluffy brush.

As explained by Hughes, micro-lining involves creating the impression of plumper lips through focusing on certain parts of your mouth. One important aspect in carrying out the technique successfully is choosing the perfect lip liner shade. In her demonstration, Katie uses the darkest shade from the KJH.Brand’s Prism Lite Lip Crayon line. Nevertheless, for regular use, a color only one shade darker than your skin is sufficient.

The technique involves making four precise lines: two at the corners of the mouth to create a subtle recess, and two on the cupid's bow and the center of the bottom lip to enhance fullness. These small, overlined marks are then blended with a fluffy makeup brush. "This creates the soft, blurred finish without removing the product," Hughes notes. The amount of blending can be adjusted based on personal preference—less blending for more definition, and more blending for a softer effect.

For that perfect finish, one can add a hint of lip gloss as well, which will make the lips appear fuller and more defined. With this technique, any individual is able to get fuller lips effortlessly.
