MCM and New York-based brand Luar have collaborated to launch the Anima MCM x Luar Leather Drawstring, a distinctive new bag unveiled during New York Fashion Week. The collaboration arrives as MCM celebrates its 50th anniversary, bringing together the German luxury house’s archive with Luar’s contemporary design perspective.
Luar’s Anima bag was presented during the brand’s Spring/Summer 2027 show earlier this week. Founder Raul Lopez drew inspiration from six different bags in the MCM catalog, combining recognizable features from the archive into an entirely new silhouette. The collection is scheduled to launch online and in selected stores in December.
MCM emphasized that the Anima is not a straightforward reissue of an existing design. Instead, the bag reinterprets familiar shapes and details, transforming archival references into a distinctive contemporary form.

A Modern Take on the MCM Archive
The Anima will be available in three sizes and three colorways: black, espresso, and cognac. Material options include leather, snakeskin-embossed leather, and suede, giving the design different textures while maintaining its vintage-inspired character.
Lopez described the collaboration as an opportunity to build on MCM’s history of redefining luxury while bringing his own creative language to the brand’s archive. The resulting design uses recognizable archival elements but updates them through Luar’s modern, intuitive approach.
MCM Worldwide Chief Brand Officer Dirk Schönberger similarly positioned the collaboration as an evolution of the house’s heritage, describing the archive as a starting point rather than a boundary. Through Luar’s perspective, familiar MCM codes are given a new expression in the Anima bag.
With its combination of heritage references, contemporary proportions, and multiple material options, the Anima MCM x Luar Leather Drawstring marks a notable addition to MCM’s 50th-anniversary celebrations and Luar’s expanding design universe.
