New York Named America’s True ‘Sin Capital’ of 2026

New York Overtakes Las Vegas as America’s ‘Sin Capital’

Forget Las Vegas! New York named America’s true ‘sin capital’ of 2026 — including a surprisingly gross reason. It’s truly one wild hotspot.

According to a new eye-opening study, New York City has officially claimed the title of the most sinful city in the United States. While Las Vegas has long been famed for its bars, casinos, and strip clubs, the study suggests that Gotham has now surpassed the Nevada desert city in nightlife density and sexually transmitted infection (STI) rates, based on 2026 data.

“New York City leads in overall ‘sin density,’” researchers for PokerTube, a major poker media outlet, reported. The study analyzed over 200 U.S. cities using a detailed index that incorporated geospatial, demographic, and public health data.

Researchers looked at the concentration of nightlife venues—bars, clubs, pubs—and adult entertainment facilities, including strip clubs, tattoo parlors, casinos, and adult shops. They also examined data from the U.S. Census Bureau and public health records to assess the share of single residents, STI statistics, and alcohol consumption rates, concluding that NYC is the most recklessly indulgent of all.

“It has the highest density of nightlife across all cities studied, with more than 1,400 bars, 109 nightclubs, 375 pubs, and a population exceeding 7 million, nearly half of whom are officially single.”

Singles in the city are feeling the effects, with “striking chlamydia rates of 558.4 per 100,000 residents and gonorrhea at 235.6 per 100,000,” the report states.

“In short, the city is simply too vast, too active, and too single to be beaten.”

How Other Cities Ranked

This is a major blow to the city’s reputation for love and relationships, especially after NYC was previously ranked as the state where people are “most likely to die single.” The city had also previously topped the list as the most “cutthroat” place for dating.

Surprisingly, Las Vegas didn’t even make it into the top two. Instead, Baltimore, Maryland, claimed the second spot.

“Despite having fewer than 500,000 residents, Baltimore’s single male population exceeds 52%—the highest among the top three cities—and its STI rates far surpass many larger cities,” the study notes.

“Chlamydia rates hit 579.8 per 100,000 residents, with syphilis at 100.3 per 100,000, making it one of the most concerning profiles among non-Southern cities,” the researchers added. “With 53 adult stores and 54 casinos relative to its size, Baltimore also ranks high in adult entertainment venues per capita.”

Coming in third is Chicago, Illinois, known for its vibrant nightlife.

“With 837 bars—one of the highest outside New York—and 92 casinos, Chicago cements its status as a major entertainment hub,” the report says. “A deeply rooted singles culture also contributes, with over half of men (52.12%) and nearly half of women (49.15%) identifying as single.”

The West Coast is also well-represented in the top 10. Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, secured fifth and seventh places, respectively, thanks to “particularly high” STI rates across the state.

Just missing the last spot, Las Vegas ranked eighth, which the study attributes to its casino and strip club density.

“The city scores highly on casinos—240, the maximum in the dataset—and has 17 strip clubs,” the report explains. “But it falls behind on other key indicators.”

“Less than 40% of Vegas’s population is single, and while STI and drinking rates are elevated, they don’t compare to the East Coast cities,” the researchers note.

Vegas remains a city built for visitors seeking sin, but its residents apparently behave with a bit more restraint.
